Froncysyllte C.P. School News

Summer 2007

It has been a very busy term here at Froncysyllte with the children both working hard and playing hard. End of term results at Key Stages 1 and 2 have once again been excellent with pass rates expected to exceed the national average in almost all areas of the curriculum. In addition we have recently been awarded our second leaf for the Healthy Schools Initiative. Well done to both pupils and staff for all their hard work.

In May some of the pupils attended a residential outward bounds centre in Denbigh. They had a wonderful time quad bike riding, abseiling, and pot holing to name but a few of the activities. All arrived home very tired but happy at the experience. Early years took a visit to the Blue Planet Aquarium as part of their terms topic, whilst the juniors visited the Canal Museum at Ellesmere Port and spent a day as Victorians at Bliss Hill in Ironbridge. There was also the annual trip to the International Musical Eisteddfod, which thankfully didn't turn out to be too wet!!! But perhaps the biggest sporting achievement of the school year took place in July. Years 4 - 6 took part in the swimming gala at Chirk and not only did they win (breaking Chirk Primary school's 10 year reign), they then went on to come fourth overall in the Wrexham area gala. A superb result for such a small school.

During the summer break the school will undergo redecoration work in the second phase of its 3 year renovation plan, and new furniture and equipment has been purchased for Early Years and Key Stage 1. With 10 Nursery children starting in September and even more early entitlement children expected throughout the coming year, the school has appointed additional teaching staff to work with Early Years. This has enabled us to retain the individual class ratio of below 20 pupils per teacher. We also operate a Nursery Plus (newly named Hopscotch) within the school premises, which allows us to offer all day attendance for pupils from the age of 3. During a recent inspection staff of Nursery Plus were commended for the level of service they provide and we aim to maintain these high standards for future years.

Any parent looking for a school place for their child is most welcome to call in and look around. We are a small community school producing excellent results.

Summer 2006

Well the year is almost over and it has been a very eventful one at Froncysyllte School. I hope everyone has had a successful year and we are ready for a nice six week break. Unfortunately there will be some changes to the staff at the school from September. As you are aware the school has hit with smaller intakes recently and this has had an impact on the school budget. This is a national problem due to lower birthrates and many schools across Wales have had to follow a similar path.

This has meant that after many years at this school Mrs Wilcock will be leaving us. This is a great shame and we thank her for all her hard work with Music and the many successful productions and events she has been involved with. Anyone wishing to donate to a leaving gift, please see the secretary.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in another successful year at Froncysyllte School especially staff, parents, governors and most of all pupils. They have helped me settle into this lovely village school which I hope will continue to be the focus of the community. I would especially like to thank year six and wish them every success at their new schools and hope they leave with many happy memories of their time in Fron School.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 5th September, and hope you all enjoy your summer break.

Easter 2006

Last term was a busy time, which began with the arrival of a new Head teacher, Mr Andrew Jarvis. Mr Jarvis has taught for fifteen years in schools in Wrexham, Chester and Walsall and hopes he can use his experience to help Fron continue to be an excellent school and be an integral part of the community.

The school also held a number of evens during the spring term. These events included an Open Morning, which allowed everyone to see how the school runs on a day-to-day basis.

We also had a Technology afternoon

  • Easter Service
  • Two children took part in the Wrexham Music Youth Festival
  • A number of football matches
  • A visit to Chirk Castle for years three and four
  • A successful inspection in our Nursery Plus and After School Club
  • Cycling Proficiency classes

We held a charity auction on the 6th April and raised £932.00 for school funds. A big thank you to Elaine Roberts for organising the event and collecting all the donations. Thank you also to all the firms that sent in prizes.

Froncysyllte Nursery Plus and After School Kids Club received excellent inspections by the Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales on Monday 24th April.

Kyle Heywood in the Nursery of Froncysyllte C.P. School presented his teacher with £70, which was raised, by his mum and nana as a result of a raffle at their work. A new sand and water tray will be bought with the money. Thank you Kyle.

May we also take this opportunity to thank all those involved with the Memories of Pontycyllte book and events.

The Storytelling was thoroughly enjoyed and we wish to thank the Ty Mawr Team as well as Fiona and Amy for all their hard work in making these events so interesting.
